Points for Attention in Using the Blade of Wood Planer

Blade is an indispensable part of wood planer, which is used to plane wood. So, what should be paid attention to when using the blade of a woodworking planer?

In the normal cutting state, because of the high speed of the cutter shaft, the centrifugal force on the blade is far greater than the cutting force. If the radial extension of the blade is too large, the cutting force will be increased, and the degree of injury caused by accidental contact of the hand will also be large; if the extension of the blade is inconsistent or the tooth chipping is damaged, the cutter shaft will be affected by the rotating unbalanced force and the cutting force will be uneven, and the workpiece will fall sideways due to the unbalanced cutting force, or bounce due to the periodic impact; if the blade is too narrow or the fastening is not firm, it will be in the strong centrifugal force Under the action of, the blade will produce asymmetric sliding in the radial direction, and even cause the blade flying out to hurt people.

1. The planer must be equipped with safety protection device, otherwise it is forbidden to use.

2. The planer shall be stable and operated by both hands. When planing large surface, the hand shall be pressed on the material; when planing small material, the finger shall not be less than half of the material height, not less than 5cm. It is forbidden to push after materials by hand. Do not wear gloves.

3. The planing amount shall not exceed 1.5mm each time. The feeding speed shall be kept even, and the force shall be light when passing through the planer. It is forbidden to return the material above the planer.

4. Planing wood with a thickness of 3cm and a length of less than 40cm must use a pressing plate or a push stick, and it is forbidden to push it by hand. Wood with a thickness of 1.5cm and a length of less than 25cm shall not be processed on a planer.

5. In case of knots, it is necessary to slow down the speed of pushing materials. It is forbidden to push materials on knots by hand. Old plates must be cleaned of nails, mud and sand. If the planed timber has cracks and other defects, it must be treated before planing.

6. The blade must be switched off and locked. It is forbidden to extend your hand into the inner side of the safety guard board to move the guard board or remove the safety guard board for planing.

7. The blade weight of the same planer must be the same, and the clamping plate of the tool holder must be consistent. The blade weld beyond the blade and the tool with cracks shall not be used. The screw for fastening the blade shall be embedded in the groove and not less than 10 mm away from the blade arm.

8.Operate the machine according to the number of people, cut off the power supply and lock the door.

How to Realize Marking in Tc Cold Rolls

Each cold roll steel bar manufacturer has its own trademark, many of which have been added to the steel surface during the rolling process. How does this trademark appear on the surface of steel bars?

The cold roll mark type has letters, characters, symbols or spaces between the ribs.

How does our company make the mark, and after receiving the order, our sales staff will actively communicate with the customer whether the roll needs to be marked. Most companies will specify the marking requirements in the purchase order, such as how many letters, the width of the letters, a few pieces of the TC roll need to be marked, and so on.

At present, our company mainly uses laser engraving machine to mark the roll. According to the customer's requirements, set the characters and sizes in the computer, and then set the engraving program, the machine can automatically mark.

Following are some markings engraved as order request:

125x82x15 PR 8.5 TC cold rolls with marking LDCA D8.5

Ø150xØ90x20 PR 8  tungsten carbide cold roller with marking blanks ribs

160/90/20 PR 10  TC wire mesh rolls with marking TS

After the customer gets the finished product, the tungsten carbide cold roll is installed in the rolling mill, the production line is started, and the rolling of the steel bar begins. In the final step of the rebar rolling, the disc circle passes through the three rolls, and the surface appears marked after coming out.

Planer Knives – Choice of Materials and Quality

Tag: planer knives, planer blades, TCT planer knives

Planers have become necessary equipment in most of the woodworking workshops or for woodworkers.  It’s a great versatile tool which can be used surface planning, wooden edges planning and much more. As planers are being for many applications, demand of planer knives is very high and there are various qualities of planer blades available in market.

When you buy planer knives, there are few things which you should consider. There are various types of quality for planer blades but here are two of them which are widely used. Here are these two types which you can buy from UKO woodworking:
1.HSS Planer Knives (High Speed Steel)
2.TCT Planer Knives (Tungsten Carbide Tipped)

The main difference between HSS planer blades and TCT planer blades is sharpness of cutting edges and service life. If you need to create very smooth surfaces, we recommend you to buy HSS Planer knives – These are very sharp.  However, if you are looking for longer service life of the blades, you should buy TCT planer knives. Their edges are tipped/ coated with tungsten carbide which increases the life of the blades keeping great sharpness.

How to deal with the phenomenon of tool vibration in the process of CNC lathe machining?

Tag: tungsten carbide inserts, milling inserts, end mills

Have you ever had the following conditions when machining with a CNC lathe?
The vibration of the tool, the workpiece and the lathe is large, and the harsh noise is transmitted. This situation not only causes the clamping of the tool or the workpiece to become loose, but also causes a bad physical and mental impact on the operator due to its noisy noise, and the machining accuracy cannot meet the requirements of the customer. This is the problem of the vibration of insert cutter. Every tool manufacturer regards how to deal with the problem of vibrating inserts as a great challenge.

How to deal with the phenomenon of tool vibration in the process of CNC lathe machining? Let’s share some our experience to you. Because we are professional tungsten carbide inserts supplier, and learned a lot when we help our customers deal various problems. It is also constantly processing the site for customers of different tool manufacturers around the world to solve various problems encountered in processing and provide high-efficiency solutions for metal processing.

When the lathe machine is working, the following situations of "vibration of insert cutter" will occur:
1. Forming turning with forming inserts,
2. Outer circle turning of slender round bar,
3. External turning of thin round bar,
4. Turning of box parts (such as sheet metal welded structural parts),
5. Super hard material cutting,
6. The bearing has been damaged and is still cutting.

1. Basic Methods
(I) Forced Vibration
This is the forced vibration caused by intermittent cutting or the vibration caused by the defect of rotating parts. The common phenomena such as abnormal sound caused by the damage of bearings or poor engagement of gears, poor clamping of workpiece and excessive swing of main shaft are all of this kind.
In this kind of problems, intermittent turning belongs to the processing technology, and the defects of parts are mostly from the assembly technology of machine tool and the quality control of its key parts, and also related to the design concept of machine tool structure. The characteristics of its vibration are directly related to the number of revolutions.
(II) Self-excited Vibration
This is due to the periodic working unevenness in the cutting process, which causes a little staggering of the periodic phase and the effect of repeated overlapping regeneration. It can also be called "resonance", which is mainly caused by the excitation of the natural frequency from the machine structure or the low self frequency of the workpiece clamping system.
Since the natural frequency of the structure changes only with the change of clamping or fixing mode, changing the cutting conditions (such as changing the rotation speed) can often improve the cutting vibration when the vibrating knife occurs. However, in some occasions where the cutting speed cannot be changed (such as attacking) tooth or cutting of certain materials, it is often only possible to solve such problems by changing the clamping method or even changing the tool or tool fixing method.

2. The countermeasures to suppress the vibrating inserts
According to the vibration knife principle obtained from the research, there are some more specific and practical methods applied to the processing site:
(1) Try to choose all the conditions with small cutting impedance, that is also the most appropriate tool feed rate and cutting speed (or spindle speed).
(2) Adjust the cutting speed to avoid resonance.
(3) Reducing the working weight of the part causing the vibration, the smaller the inertia, the better.
(4) Fix or clamp the place with the largest vibration, such as the center frame, work holder, etc.
(5) Improve the rigidity of the processing system, for example, using a tool holder with a high modulus of elasticity or using a special shock resistance added to the dynamic damper to absorb the impact energy.
(6) Working hard from the direction of the blade and the work rotation (the work will lower the tool while also increasing the stability of the tool).
(7) Change the shape and advance angle of the tool. For example, the smaller the nose radius, the better, to reduce the cutting resistance. The roll angle must be positive so that the cutting direction is closer to vertical. The back rake angle is preferably positive, but the chip removal ability is relatively poor. Therefore, a groove cutter is generally used to make the inclination angle negative, but still maintains a positive cutting effect.
(8) The smaller the lead angle, the better, of coarse preferably zero.
